School Parliament
Lache Primary School Parliament
At Lache Primary School we believe that our children should have a say and can impact on the way we develop our school, our country and the wider world.
Our school parliament consists of a pupil representative from each year group, who was voted on by their peers.
The School Parliament meets at least once a month and discusses issues raised by their classmates, issues arising from Senior Leadership discussions and current developments worldwide that our school can impact on.
Please browse through our minutes to see what decisions we have been making.
September Meeting
In our first meeting, we spent some time getting to know each parliament representative and spoke about the meaning of parliament. Why is it important? What qualities do we need to have in order to be a successful parliament? We discussed a run through of what we could do within each of our meetings. Miss Holmes asked the members for feedback of the planned itinerary and challenged parliament to go back to classes to ask their year groups if there is any issues/comments they wanted us to discuss in future meetings.
November Meeting
In our November Meeting, we took part in an audit of our school and environment. We considered the importance of keeping our environment safe and discussed how we would like our school to look. Parliament took a walk around the school, noting down ideas for how we could improve our school and creating a list of things that we like about our school. We wrote a letter to Mrs Seager to ask for some more playground benches and equipment.
December Meeting
In this meeting, one of our school governors joined us to talk about our well being and mental health! We spoke about the wonderful ways that well being is promoted within our school (yoga balls, sensory breaks, sensory circuits, enrichment and dojos). Children were happy with the processes that we currently have and didn't have any other suggestions. Parliament members were asked to go back to classes and feed this back.
January Meeting
In this meeting, Mrs Seager asked us to discuss and audit the current behaviour strategies that we have in place (calm corridors, star in a jar, team stop). All parliament members could confidently discuss these strategies and were happy with them. One member said that they felt they could see an improvement in school because of this. Another member discussed that they particularly enjoyed the star in the jar rewards that their class had won.
