Phonics and Reading
Phonics is one of our main prioirites in Year One. This is the basis for learn to read. High quality phonics lessons paired with Guided Reading in school and regualr Home Reading will ensure that children are confident, fluent readers.
In Year 1 we ask you to complete a Phonics based homework activity each week, we also ask that you read with your child a minimum of 4 days each week.
For more information please visit the Parents page of the Little Wandle Website- https://www.littlewandlelettersandsounds.org.uk/resources/for-parents/
In Year 1, children begin the Power Maths programme. This has a mastery approach and enables children to have an indepth maths knowledge across a range of different mathematical subjects. This Year starts with Number and Place Value.
We will also send home a maths activity each week.
Our first book of the year is Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers. During this unit, children will learn how to compose and write interesting sentences using their phonics skills and of course, their wonderful imaginations.
