Nursery Class

Welcome to Little Explorers Nursey Class!

In our class Miss Mursell is the class teacher and she oversees the learning opportunities for Nursey as well as outdoor learning, Physical Development and Understanding the World, reading our home time story.

Our children have ample opportunity to explore our amazing learning environment while getting the input they need to make them ready for their transition into Reception Class.

School Hours

We start our school day at 8:50am.

Lunch time is 12:00 to 01:00. Children can choose to bring a packed lunch or have a school dinner which will be charged at  £2.83. You will receive a letter from school with a code to access ‘parent pay’, this is so you can prepay for school dinners if needed.

The end of the school day is 3:10pm; the children will be let out from the classroom.

School Uniform

Children are expected to wear school uniform. This consists of sweatshirt/cardigan, grey/black trousers/skirt, white shirt/polo shirt and tie. It can also be handy for children to have a book bag for their things although this is optional.

Children must have a pair of wellie boots to stay in school. We use them every day and they are essential for them to access many areas outside. Every Friday we go to forest school for the morning, because of this the children can come to school wearing warm, old clothes that you don’t mind getting mucky. This is every single Friday.

In our Nursery we strive to ensure that the children who enter our care receive the well-rounded education they deserve. Our curriculum consists of everything you would want your child to experience, learn and be able to do. It must meet the requirements of the educational programmes in the statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). These are included throughout Development Matters for ease of reference.

The Characteristics of Effective Learning

These points are always at the forefront of the practitioners mind, and they help to shape what your child will be doing to ensure they make progress with us.

Playing and exploring – children investigate and experience things,
and ‘have a go’
Active learning – children concentrate and keep on trying if they
encounter difficulties, and enjoy achievements
Creating and thinking critically – children have and develop their own
ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things

7 Areas of Learning

In Nursery we teach the 7 areas of learning, which is an umbrella term for each of the subjects we cover. In reality your child will access several of these at once while engaging with the environment whilst with us. Having a well-set up environment will help to make sure that your child has every opportunity to develop skills in each of these areas.

Our Curriculum

Below is our curriculum overview for Early years. Both classes follow the same themes per half term but it is under the discretion of the teachers how they implement these topics into their teaching.

Forest School!

Every Friday nursery children will be heading out (whatever the weather) into our forest school area! It is very important that your child can have outdoor learning experiences throughout the year. We have waterproof suits available but your child will need to have a pair of wellies to keep in school so they can have access to them when they need them. Please could each child bring spare trousers, a top, underwear and socks with their name in. This does not need to be uniform but something that your child can attempt to put on themselves.
