Little Explorers Early Years Department

Little Explorers
Early Years Department
At Lache Primary School we pride ourselves on giving our smallest pupils the best start possible. Our Early Years department caters for children from three to five years old with several intakes in the year. It is really important to us that the children in our care have ample opportunity to grow as little learners and our environment and staff really do reflect this.
Please see below for more information.

Little Explorers setup
Within Little Explorers we have our Nursery base and our Reception based classrooms. These are used for both whole class and small group teaching opportunities, and for our morning meetings. Outside of these times the children have three huge play based classrooms to explore in, as well as a secure outdoor area.
Each of our classrooms hosts large play areas to excite every child's interest that presents itself that day. Whether we have a budding architect ready to bring their latest structure to life in our construction base or a child who loves to represent their ideas with paint and collage.
Please see the 'Environment' page for more information on the physical areas we offer at Little Explorers.

Our Day
Our days are always filled with magic - as is every early years classroom!
Children come into their respective 'base' classrooms depending on whether they are reception or Nursery age. Here we have a morning meeting where we check in with each child to make sure they feel welcomed and ready to start the day.
When our meeting is finished, the children have access to the learning environment, three big interconnecting classrooms hosting a range of learning opportunities. Each room will have one or more of our adults in to enhance the learning they can see going on. During this time all children will have access to our snack Kitchen in which they can serve themselves some healthy snack options.
Children have lunch at 12-1 and then after our initial base meetings in the afternoon the children have more exploring time until hometime.
During the day children will be called upon for small group learning time. Activities include guided reading sessions, drawing club (literacy) and PSHE activities.
Nursery attend forest school every Friday morning.
